href="http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?mt=8amp;id=281969989"App Store
link/a]. This week, At Bat has dropped in price from $4.99US to $2.99US.br /br /It's on sale
because it will "expire" when the current season ends (Go, Sox!), meaning you'll have to purchase a
new version for 2009. Still, if you're a fan and into the post-season, I encourage you to buy it.
It's my hands-down favorite iPhone application. pWhile using At Bat, I realized how an
application's features and benefits affect its longevity. Specifically, the features attract your
attention, while the benefits grab you for good./p pHere's an example. At Bat provides nearly
real-time statistics for ongoing games, including scoring, current batter and pitcher, stats, the
count at the plate ... even video clips from a game that's emin progress/em./p pYou can identify
your favorite team to keep their score highlighted, and enjoy an integrated version of a
href="http://www.mlb.com/mlb/gameday/"MLB Gameday/a, which provides pitch-by-pitch information and
so much more. All of this is presented in an attractive, readable UI./p pThose are the features./p
pThe benefit is a feeling of connectedness, even participation, and emthat's/em why At Bat is a
keeper. As a die-hard baseball fan, I want to watch every game. I know the stats, the players, the
standings; who's playing well, who's on injured reserve and who's in a slump. It's tremendously fun
to watch a baseball game on a summer evening and get lost in the drama of it all./p pHowever, life
interferes (can you say "toddlers"?) and I sometimes miss a game. Yet, those live stats and video
clips alleviate the emfeeling/em of missing the game, and that's worth a lot more than $2.99 to me.
br //p pThe same can be said of other applications. Twitterrific [a

any time, I can share a funny picture, observation or idea with my buddies, and get a reply just as

Youch. Sounds like early DDR3 adopters who went the performance route may have a tough pill to
swallow.
WE GOT WORD that Intel is adivising mobo-makers and memory vendors alike about their new X58+Core
i7 combo and to abide to a strict 1.65V limit on memory voltages, beyond which there is the risk of
burning out the CPU.
The info first tipped up on the XFastest forums where the admin posted several photos of an Asus
P6T Deluxe (retail-packed) mobo including one of a big sticker over the DIMM slots motherboard
warning that anything over 1.65V will fry the CPU.
The DDR3 JEDEC specification is well within limits of this, however, starting off at 1.5V, but as
Intel’s CPUs have made for such great overclockers, memory vendors have ever so happily
catered to the enthusiast crowd with faster, higher-powered memory kit. You’ve got plenty of
examples, OCZ Reaper PC3-14400 operates at 1.9V, Mushkin’s XP Series uses 1.9-1.95V,
Corsair’s Dominator high-end takes you all the way up to 2.1V…
Asus' staff has been busy in meetings so we rang up several memory vendors here in €uroland,
and considering it’s a public holiday in Germany, they were more than helpful.
Mushkin’s VP Steffen Eisenstein said that they are re-designing specifically for the X58/Core
i7 combo, and that their kit should be out some time next month… in Tri-Channel packs. Other
memory vendors across the globe are claiming their kits are still undergoing certification with
motherboard vendors so they still don’t know whether they qualify or not.
We’re still waiting for Intel to explain why the memory voltage will burn the CPU, but
pressing F9 in Outlook and constantly checking our phones isn’t making things any faster.
It looks like the DDR3 IC and memory vendors will have to go back to the drawing board if they are
to create enthusiast-grade performance levels for Nehalem. If you want to get a Core i7 as soon as
it hits the market, make sure you have the memory kit to go with it. You’ll have to
underclock your kit to more reasonable (power compliant) settings in the meantime. µ
Update: Asus called us back and confirmed the limitation on the RAM voltages. They are currently
running a 1.7V kit in their UK office, but beyond that, you're on your own.

Company Name
TalentTrove
20-Word Description
TalentTrove is a global online talent community created to help individuals share their talents
with the world.
CEO’s Pitch
TalentTrove not only provides aspiring artists and performers with the opportunity to be
discovered, but also offers a virtual community for like-minded individuals to discuss their
passions, share mutual opportunities, seek advice, and stay connected.
Users can create, upload, and broadcast their skills and talents in the form of audio and video
files, images, or text. The site even provides artists and musicians from around the world with
the opportunity to collaborate with one another.
The motivation to showcase talent specifically on TalentTrove is fueled by our
promise— be seen, be appreciated, be recognized and be discovered.
Mashable’s Take
If you didn’t make it to “American Idol” or “America’s Got
Talent” or any number of other well-televised auditions and competitions, and yet
you’d still like to prove your showman’s mettle, TalentTrove seems like an
interesting place to strut your stuff.
It wouldn’t have grabbed our attention if it were solely a place to post visual renditions
of pop standards or juggling feats or whathaveyou. Much of the content displayed is quite
amateurish, so visitors will need to spend some time traveling around the place to get a solid
grasp of what it is that makes TalentTrove tick. It’s YouTube, but with an exclusively
creative spin. Which some aren’t likely to enjoy very much. On the other hand, some may
well benefit from the casual environs.
What is especially inviting about the website is its breadth of categories. Acting, comedy,
music, dance, food, craft making, and even things featuring animals and writing are all welcome.
Again, you may not be entirely thrilled with what’s currently shown, either at the main
archive or at TalentTrove.TV and
radio.talenttrove. But the service
itself offers users many options with which to portray themselves and their work. Which is really
half the battle, development-wise.
Now, you may have to forgive TalentTrove’s visual presentation. It’s not the
prettiest platform on the Web. Not even close. And it can behave somewhat sluggishly.
There’s some waiting to go along with a basic browse around the place. But it feels
relatively thorough insofar as features are concerned. Again, it can take a few moments to learn
what everything is and where it is located. But if you’re intent on producing an upload or
two, exploration is simply part of the process.
It’s hard to say one way or another whether TalentTrove is qualitatively worthwhile. For
truly promising aspirants in fields demanding of excellence, I would peg TalentTrove as a venue
ideal only for tossing up bits and pieces in order to see what sticks. But as TalentTrove’s
creator states above, it’s a community. And that’s an important point to keep in mind
here. It’s nothing to take too seriously. Just somewhere to share material and get some
easy feedback. For that alone, TalentTrove is worth the registration.

Yat-chan and Fuku-chan are waiters at the Kaoru Otsuka sake house north of Tokyo. The two are
monkeys. They bring hot towels and also serve drinks. From Reuters, where you can also see video:
"Yat-chan first learned by just watching me working in the restaurant. It all started when one day
I gave him a hot towel out of curiosity and he brought the towel to the customer," the 63-year-old
owner of the tavern, Kaoru Otsuka, told Reuters... "We called out for more beer just then and it
brought us some beer! It's amazing how it seems to understand human words," said 71-year-old
retiree Miho Takikawa, who said she came to the tavern specifically to meet the monkeys. Monkey

height="286" /Google's stock is now down more than 50% from its high, at a level that most Google
fans (and analysts) would have considered unthinkable a year ago. In fact, the stock has now
dropped to a level it hasn't seen consistently in more than three years. And it's still not cheap
(although it's certainly getting there)./p pGoogle's stock collapse will likely have several
impacts on the company. All will likely become more pronounced the longer the stock stays at these
levels (or, god forbid, falls further):/p pstrongAngry shareholders will increasingly pressure
management to be more forthcoming about how they are spending Google's astronomical CAPEX and RD
budgets. /strong Even in the salad days, Wall Street was annoyed about how little Google disclosed
about what it was spending so much money on. Now that the bloom has fallen off the rose, this
impatience will turn to anger. At that point, management will have a choice to make: Continue to
say Google is just "a href="http://investor.google.com/ipo_letter.html"not a conventional
company/a" or cave and start providing better disclosure./p pstrongAngry shareholders will
increasingly campaign for more accountability on those CAPEX and RD investments./strong
Specifically, Google's culture of 20% time, pet projects, and endless revenue-less beta releases
will become more and more annoying. Management will then have to decide whether they want to
respond to this call for more discipline or, again, maintain that Google is "different." If they
choose the latter route, many shareholders will likely throw in the towel./p pstrongGoogle may have
to fire people and/or otherwise tighten the belt. /strongYes, it sounds inconceivable now, but
Google's margins have been dropping steadily for more than a year. With the global economy headed
into recession, it is highly likely that Google's revenue growth will be hit. This probably won't
put the company in actually difficulty, but it will certainly prompt shareholders to call for
change./p pstrongA likely shift toward more cash compensation as a percentage of total
compensation, which will put more pressure on margins./strong The gulf between the "haves" and
"have nots" in Google's 16,000+ ranks will now have become even more stark than ever, with the
folks hired more than three years ago rolling in wealth and everyone else feeling like they missed
the boat. This will exacerbate morale issues. If the stock doesn't recover, it will also likely
force the company to consider raising its cash compensation as a percentage of total comp, to
placate those who missed the pre-IPO bonanza./p pstrongThe Google talent exodus will
continue./strong The fun part, it seems, is over. So why not let someone else worry about the hard
and painful part while you try something new?/p pPerhaps most importantly, strong the perception
that Google can do no wrong will change rapidly./strong As it does, the pent-up anger about Google
complete domination of the global advertising market over the past few years will find a more
receptive audience, and the company's critics will be emboldened./p pWill all this kill Google? Of
course not. But it will likely force some change. And as far as the company's outside investors are
concerned, that's probably a good thing./p pstrongSee Also:/strongbr /a

Quote: Jasper Hunting 101: Waiting for the 65nm Xbox 360
Date: October 6th, 2008
Topic: Gadgets
Manufacturer: Microsoft
Author: Michael Andrawes
I've been pestering Anand for the past coupled of months with every shred of evidence or rumor that
relates to the launch of Microsoft's updated Xbox 360 motherboard codenamed "Jasper." Finally, he
got sick of hearing about my obsession, so he asked me to write it up for AnandTech. I think the
real reason is just to reduce the clutter in his IM logs ;) So here I am...
So, what's the big deal with Jasper? Well, it finally brings a 65nm GPU to the console, which
should run much cooler than the current 90nm GPU that's been there since launch. Why does that
matter? The 360 is now infamous for the "Red Ring of Death" (aka RRoD) failure and many hypothesize
that this is related to overheating issues. The Falcon motherboard introduced a 65nm CPU shrink to
help combat heat issues, but unfortunately, the GPU remained at 90nm (possibly with a slight
redesigned or possibly even a half-node 80nm shrink). Overall the Falcon-based 360s run cooler and
quieter than earlier models and seem to be more reliable so far. The RRoD has not been completely
eliminated, however, and many of us have been waiting for the 65nm GPU update before actually
buying a 360 - myself included. The exact reasons for the Xbox 360 reliability issues is not the
purpose of this article, but I hope that Jasper will fix it. That said, we won't know what impact
Jasper will have on reliability until they've been out for about a year or so.
I had a variety of reasons for waiting until approximately this point in time to buy a 360, but
with all speculation pointing towards Jasper being out sometime around now, I couldn't help but
wait a bit longer for the latest and greatest. At the same time, I have a fiance breathing down my
neck about getting Rock Band, so I've been doing my best to track down a Jasper-based 360 before
she kills me. Unfortunately, that's easier said than done.
You see, the Jasper has not been documented in the wild just yet, so we're all working on
speculation and rumor at this point. Engadget jumped the gun the other day based on some bad
information from another site. The story was then picked up by a number of media outlets despite
the retraction from Engadget. The result is mass confusion about the true status of Jasper and my
primary goal here is to set that straight. My secondary goal is to help others identify Jasper as
well.
Ok that's not true at all - my real goal here is to help identify Jasper in the wild so I can get
one ;) If I help you guys find one too, that's ok :)
What has been known for a while:
1. TSMC has reportedly been producing 65nm GPUs for Microsoft since early this year. Note, this is
just the GPU chips themselves.
2. A number of rumors pointed towards a late August or early September build date for Jasper
motherboards.
3. Delays can happen.
Thanks to a thread over on 8bitjoystick, a number of us have been trying to track down any
additional information that might help us ID these consoles, preferably without actually opening
them and looking at the GPU directly. Here's what we've found (we being myself, 8bitjoystick,
Knoxximus, Jediman, and others in that thread).
1. Microsoft has registered a 150W PSU with a model number virtually identical to some of the 175W
PSUs currently included with Falcon-based 360s. Both 110V and 220V models are listed.
2. The current output on that PSUs 12V rail is rated at 12.1A.
3. All of this is right in line with estimated power reduction from a die-shrunk GPU.
4. The 12V current demands of the console are clearly listed on the console itself, right next to
the serial number. Falcon was 14.2A; earlier models (Zephyr and Xenon) were 16.5A.
I propose that the 12.1A power rating listed on the back of the console will be the most reliable
way to ID a Jasper without opening it up. It still requires opening the factory packaging, but once
you do, you should know what you've got inside. The first units may still come with 175W PSUs, just
like many of the first Falcons came with the original 203W PSU. Unfortunately, Microsoft has
stopped listing the PSU power output on the outter packaging, so we can't use that as an indicator
of what's inside. At least one person has stated that their early Falcon still had a rating of
16.5A, but I've been unable to verify this.
Some other potentially useful power information: Anand has already documented the Falcon to use
~100W at the dashboard and ~120W while playing Halo - a full 50W less than Zephyr. I'd expect
Jasper to also be up to 50W less than that, although that's just an educated guess for obvious
reasons. This is power draw at the AC outlet with a Kill-a-watt or similar meter. The numbers may
not work out perfectly on an early Jasper if it's using a 175W PSU, but it should still be less
than the Falcon numbers.
So far, nobody has found a Jasper, so the exact weeks of manufacture and therefore lot numbers are
still unknown. The original rumors would point towards weeks 34-38 being the first Jaspers, which
corresponds to a lot # of 0834 to 0838. This information of course has not been verified since none
have actually been spotted in the wild. Then there's the issue of which manufacturing team will
make them first. Again, we don't know since nobody has one, but team FDOU had the first Falcons
last year. What I can tell you is that 0833 from FDOU is the newest I can find documented anywhere
and it's still a Falcon by all accounts.
The last trick that may or may not be beneficial is trying to look through the vents for changes in
the heatsink design or inductor layout. These tricks were well documented for identifying Falcons,
but nobody knows for sure exactly what Jasper will actually look like. More than likely, we'll see
a revised GPU heatsink that's cheaper to produce since the cooling requirements will be reduced.
That would likely mean no copper heatpipe, something that is currently visible through the
vents.
Other things that need to be clarified:
1. I mentioned it above, but it's worth reiterating: nobody has actually laid hands on a Jasper
outside of Microsoft and their manufacturers.
2. Microsoft is not going to officially talk about Jasper. There will be no press release. They
will not respond to questions about it. Not from us, and certainly not from any random person
calling them up. If they announced anything, it would make it quite hard to sell the old stock and
it would admit that their old units were less reliable. Besides, this running change would have
happened even if there were no effect on reliability because it's a cost cutting measure - the very
same one that enabled the recent price drops. Their repair centers doesn't know anything
either.
3. Retailers don't care. Being an unofficial, running change in the manufacturing means that
nothing official will go to the retailers either. In other words, they have no idea what models
they have, and nor do they care. A Jasper-based 360 will look just like a Falcon or even
Zephyr-based 360 to them. They make the same amount of profit on each unit and they have zero
incentive to try to sell all the old stock first. Forget all the conspiracy theories regarding the
retailers or their employees.
4. Employees don't care. Getting employees to check this out for you is difficult. Most of them
don't get it and wouldn't care even if they did. A refusal to check is more an indication of lack
of motivation to do something so seemingly strange rather than them trying to prevent you from
getting the latest and greatest.
5. The whole Jasper thing is a hardware revision for cost savings and is completely unrelated to
any software updates, such as the upcoming dashboard experience.
6. We have no way of knowing if Microsoft has a plan to specifically implement Jasper in certain
models first (ie Elites before Arcades), but to date, the faster selling Arcades seem to be the
most recently produced models at my local stores. This may vary by locale however. I'd expect this
to be a running change that will not be targeted at a particular model though.
7. I've been wrong once or twice before, so take this all with a grain of salt ;)
Thanks again to all the guys/gals in the 8bitjoystick/Seattle PI thread. They deserve as much
credit as I do as it was our work together that helped uncover most of this. I'm just trying to
make this more public and clear up some of the confusion that's out there.
That's all I have for now. I'll post more as I find it. Link: http://anandtech.com/gadgets/showdoc.aspx?i=3424
And also of note is the SeattlePi blog:
http://blog.seattlepi.nwsource.com/d...ves/147899.asp
Quote: The Xbox 360 motherboard "Xenon" had a 90nm CPU and 90nm GPU and no HDMI.
The Xbox 360 motherboard "Zephyr" had a 90nm CPU and 90nm GPU and HDMI.
The Xbox 360 motherboard "Falcon" had a 65nm CPU and 90nm GPU and HDMI.
The Xbox 360 motherboard "Opus" had a 65nm CPU and 90nm GPU, no HDMI and only included in repaired
"Xenon" system cases from Xbox repair centers.
The Xbox 360 motherboard "Jasper" will have a 65nm CPU and new 65nm GPU and HDMI.
They are currently working on the Xbox 360 motherboard "Valhalla" and that will have a combo 65nm
CPU/GPU on a single super chip and HDMI. Valhalla is not going to be out for a long time, at least
a year or more. Finally the article by Dean Takahashi who wrote "Opening the XBox" on XBox1 and is
writting a book on XBox 360 as well as reporting/recording the RRoD problems many gamers
experienced up to and after Microsoft took action with the extended warranty and is still a very
important article because many of those gamers who got RRoD ended up buying a newer XBox 360
consoles revision hoping to avoid the RRoD problem:
http://venturebeat.com/2008/09/05/xb...-console-woes/
This should be helpfull information for people curious about the new Jasper XBox 360 revision that
Microsoft is making available, whether it will fix the Red Ring of Death failiures is still unknown
but with a 65nm CPU & GPU the obvious benefits are cooler running chips that consumer less
electricity current and probably less fear of the system crapping out during heavy gaming sessions
or even movie viewing sessions as one of my friends is getting a 2 red light error on his XBox 360
premium and another experiences framerate slowdown during extended Halo 3 gameplay on his Falcon
X360 Elite.
It would be extremely interesting if someone could compare all the XBox 360 revisions with reguards
to power consumption and extended gameplay reliability such as 12 continous hours of heavy nonstop
online play (some are guilty of doing this and I myself used to do this back in XBox 1 Halo1 Lan
parties)

pHypnosis has long been considered a valuable technique for recreating and then studying puzzling
psychological phenomena. A classic example of this approach uses a technique known as posthypnotic
amnesia (PHA) to model memory disorders such as functional amnesia, which involves a sudden memory
loss typically due to some sort of psychological trauma (rather than to brain damage or disease).
Hypnotists produce PHA by suggesting to a hypnotized person that after hypnosis he will forget
particular things until he receives a ldquo;cancellation, rdquo; such as ldquo; Now you can remember
everything.rdquo; PHA typically only happens when it is specifically suggested and it is much more
likely to occur in those with high levels of hypnotic ability, or ldquo;high hypnotizablerdquo;
people. Now a new study shows that this hypnotic state actually influences brain activity
associated with memory. a href=http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?id=hypnosis-memory-brain[More]/a
