SingleCrystal is an elegant, easy-to-use program for visualizing and
understanding diffraction patterns from single crystals.
SingleCrystal lets you simulate simulation electron diffraction patterns and reciprocal lattice
sections - which can be compared directly with observed data. The program also lets you display
stereographic projections of planes, traces, zones and zone axes. You can rotate crystals with
the mouse, or tilt controls, and observe how the diffraction pattern changes. Screen tools allow
easy measurement and indexing of reflexions, as well as the display of phase information for
scattered beams.
SingleCrystal is designed to work with CrystalMaker, allowing users to visualize crystal
structures then with a single menu command, display the diffraction pattern in SingleCrystal. The
program can also be used as a stand-alone application, reading from CrystalMaker "crystal" files.
WHAT'S NEWVersion 2.0.0: Release notes were unavailable when this listing was updated.
REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.4 or later.
You will need CrystalMaker if you
wish to simulate diffraction patterns from your own structures.

qui me contradiront).
nouvelle CB ? Roger tu me copies 10 sur 10 ?
Sandboxie allows you to run your browser, or any other program, so that all changes that result
from the usage are kept in a sandbox environment, which can then be deleted later. This allows
you to remove traces of your Internet or PC activities, as well as reverse any changes to your
Favorites, home page, registry and more. Even files that were downloaded during a sandbox session
will be wiped after the sandbox is cleared. The program runs in the system tray and if you want
to start a sandboxed session, simply launch your browser, or any other program via the tray icon,
rather than the regular way.
Abolished method of execution associated with the French revolution is displayed at the
Musée D'Orsay in Paris
Beneath the grey veil used to cloak her awful secrets from the public gaze, "the widow" stands
14ft tall and the blade hangs menacingly over a hole designed for a neck. "One can have a certain
indifference on the death penalty," read Victor Hugo's famous words nearby, "as long as one has
not seen a guillotine with one's own eyes."
When France put an end to capital punishment in 1981, it also bid a not-so-fond farewell to the
instrument of death that had taken the lives of thousands. But today, at the request of the
crusading abolitionist who consigned it to history, one of the last guillotines in France was put
on display for all the world to see.
For Robert Badinter, the former justice minister who succeeded in outlawing the death penalty
during the first year of François Mitterrand's presidency, its appearance at a new
exhibition at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris is a reason to celebrate.
"The guillotine, this instrument of death, has become the object of a museum," the Socialist
senator told Le Monde this week. "What a symbol and what a victory for the supporters of
abolition!"
Badinter, who as a young lawyer witnessed the guillotine "slicing the neck" of a 27-year-old
client, Roger Bontems, in La Santé prison in 1972, refers to the machine as his "old
enemy". What was chosen as the official execution method by the revolutionaries of 1792 continued
in France until 1977, when Hamida Djandoubi was guillotined at Baumettes prison in Marseille
after being convicted on charges of torture, murder and rape.
In 1981, Badinter, who wrote in his book L'Abolition that seeing executions for himself had
turned him into a hard-core opponent of the death penalty, said that a period of time
– "not shorter than 25 years" – should elapse before the
so-called louisette was seen in public again.
Now, the contraption – in this case a model designed by Léon Alphonse
Berger in 1872 – is on show at the entrance of a new exhibition entitled Crime
et Châtiment (Crime and Punishment) which runs until the end of June.
According to Badinter, it is the last intact guillotine in mainland France. Two others, both from
overseas territories, are housed in the National Prisons Museum in Fontainebleau.
The guillotine's resurrection, thanks to a nationwide search by Badinter and curator Jean Clair
who tracked it down in a military bunker in Ecouen, north of Paris, is a fitting contribution to
an exhibition full of severed heads, murders and madness.
With more than 450 works, including sculptures by Rodin and paintings by Degas, David and Munch,
the museum has sought to use art to trace attitudes to crime, punishment and rehabilitation from
the first bloodthirsty days of the revolution.
Clair has pointed out that when it was suggested by Joseph Ignace Guillotin in 1789, the idea of
making mechanical decapitation the uniform means of France's execution stemmed not from barbarity
but from a desire to make death as quick and painless as possible for the victim, whether a
prince or a pauper.
Hanging and hacking with hatchets were considered woefully inefficient.
"This machine was created out of humanist concerns as the least painful and most egalitarian
means of death," Clair told Le Figaro, adding: "Its precision and ease of use also made it the
starting point for mass industrial murders."
As debate swirls in contemporary France over reoffending rates, police powers and the pitiful
state of overcrowded prisons, the exhibition has a particular relevance.
One visitor, retired teacher Michèle Robelin, expressed surprise, however, that it did not
address more pressing issues.
"I think it's a shame this stops at 1981," she said, referring to a timeline of the criminal
justice system in France. "Thirty years have passed since then and the state of our prisons is
dreadful. They have just swept it under the carpet."

The Wall Street Journal and
National Public Radio (NPR) will be launching custom-built iPad-only websites next month when the
new Apple slate computer known as the iPad is made available for sale. Both sites will
automatically detect when web surfers arrive via an iPad device and will then show those visitors
a special version of the site, customized exclusively for the iPad. How exactly will these sites
compare to the web pages regular site visitors see? There's just one difference: they won't
feature any Adobe Flash technology.
Sponsor
NPR's New iPad Site: Entirely Flash Free
According to reports
from MediaMemo,
NPR is removing all traces of Adobe Flash, which powers its website's media and graphics, from
its iPad-only version. Although many news organizations use Flash to display multimedia
presentations and audio and video content, NPR in particular was going to be heavily affected by
Apple's refusal to support Flash on the new iPad devices. That's because a key feature on NPR's
website is its Flash-based audio player, something that's featured on nearly every webpage
site-wide.
Kinsey Wilson, senior vice president and general manager of NPR Digital Media, recently told
Poynter that their
developers decided to work around the problem by implementing an HTML5-based player instead.
Wilson also
noted that the company has a "launch sponsor" for the iPad-only site, since it won't be able
to support web ads, which are often coded in Flash.
WSJ: A Flash-Free Front Page
The Wall Street Journal, a News Corp. property, is also building an iPad-only version of their
site - well, actually just an iPad-only front page. Unlike NPR's iPad site, which will be 100%
Flash-free, WSJ visitors who follow links deeper into the website will soon discover that not all
its page have been converted. Here, they'll run into the soon-to-be-infamous "blue box," the
lego-like symbol that appears where a Flash content should have been.
There aren't any demos or mockups of these new websites available, so it's unknown at this time
if they're being changed in other ways to accommodate iPad visitors. That is to say, it's unknown
if they will be exact replicas of the non-iPad versions but just with the Flash content
removed, or if they will perhaps sport an entirely new design.
Start of a New Trend?
With these two leading media companies making this sort of change, it's reasonable to imagine
that others will soon follow. And while iPad owners will certainly appreciate the adjustments -
that blue lego is such an eyesore, after all - the need for so many custom versions of the same
site may become a burden on businesses who need to reach a wide audience.
Today, companies are already tasked with creating a traditional website, a mobile website and
sometimes a customized mobile website designed just for iPhone visitors. Now there's the
iPad-only website to code for and soon there may be another one, too. Recent
news reports state that Amazon is working on a new web browser just for their Kindle
e-Reader. Will that be yet another website needing its own custom version?
So Many Versions of the Same Site!
It's bad enough that the mobile application ecosystem itself is so fragmented - developers have
several platforms to code for from the iPhone to Android, plus Palm, Windows Mobile - including
the new Windows Phone 7 Series, Symbian and Blackberry, to name a few. Now it seems they'll have
a number of unique mobile devices to support as well?
The web was supposed to be the one unifying "platform" that works anywhere, on any device, no
matter what hardware is used to access it. But thanks to varying screen sizes and differing
feature sets (most notably Apple's refusal to allow Flash on their mobile devices), those who
want to provide compelling content to all their site visitors will be forced to re-code
their site multiple times. Publishers without the resources to do so will have to make a tough
choice - remove the unsupported content and the media that makes it slow to load on mobile
devices entirely? Or leave it be and risk losing their mobile audience instead? That's a
"Sophie's Choice" no one wants to make. Unfortunately, in a down economy where money is tight,
that may be just what happens.
Losing a friend or family member is painful enough, but imagine the extra, unnecessary jabs when
that friend's social networking profile continues to pop up in searches. Or say your friend was
particularly wise or witty when posting online, but when you went back to reference something
later, the entire record was gone without a trace.
Today, many of us keep our profiles, blog posts, and musings entirely online, leaving family,
friends, and service providers stuck trying to figure out what to do with a deceased user's
digital bits.
I have a personal interest in this topic, as I'm of a generation that largely grew up with the
Internet while our parents largely remain uninvolved (mine are surprisingly Internet
literate, but most of my friends' parents aren't). An Ars reader and close friend of mine passed
away in early 2008, and all of his online musings remain in limbo to this day—his MySpace
profile is still active as if he was still around, confusing old high school friends, yet his
blog has mysteriously disappeared and no one will be able to get it back.
This prompted us to start looking into various sites' policies on deceased user accounts and what
you can do about them—whether you want to preserve them, delete them, or otherwise.

Rouge, jaune, rose, noir avec du bleu. Rouge, jaune, rose.
magique. Et elle parle sans arrêt.
Reykjavik, novembre 2008.
Un an
The Luyas, c'est Jessie, Stefan
Montréal a vélo.
hilarante et qui restera longtemps : "It looks like dirt, but it's death".
New York, février 2010.
père l'a abandonnée.
