alt="blackberry-storm-vzw.jpg" title="blackberry-storm-vzw.jpg" width="216" height="370" /Good news
and bad news from BlackBerry maker Research In Motion: Way after hours at 9:35 p.m., the company a
href="http://biz.yahoo.com/iw/081202/0457377.html"announced/a that it blew its third quarter. But
RIM (RIMM) says "exceptional" response to its new gadgets led to record subscriber growth at the
end of the quarter./p ul liRIM says Q3 sales will fall between $2.75-$2.78 billion, below consensus
of $2.96 billion and about 9% below its forecasted range of $2.95-$3.10 billion./li liRIM says it
added 2.6 million net new subscribers during the quarter, 10% below its forecast of 2.9 million./li
liWhy? Later than anticipated product launches, the lousy economy, and unfavorable currency
trends./li /ul pBut, on the plus side, RIM says its new Bold and Storm smartphones are seeing an
"exceptional" response:/p p style="padding-left: 30px;"Daily net subscriber account additions
reached a record level on the day the BlackBerry Storm launched in the United States and RIM
achieved a record number of weekly net subscriber account additions during the last week of the
third quarter. The strong demand for new products has continued into Q4 and RIM is working closely
with its partners to deliver sufficient product to take advantage of the growth opportunity in Q4
and beyond./p pThe touchscreen BlackBerry Storm is still backordered at Verizon Wireless. It'll be
crucial for RIM to meet demand there in the next few weeks or it could lose potential buyers to
Apple's (AAPL) iPhone -- which would be bad news for Verizon (VZ)./p pRIM's after-hours charts
haven't updated on Google or Yahoo, but we wouldn't be surprised to see its stock open lower
Wednesday. Investors have been preparing for bad news from RIM, but its Q3 revenue will come in
below even the Street's most pessimistic analyst./p pNext update will be Dec. 18, when the company
posts final Q3 results and gives Q4 guidance./p pstrongSee Also:/strongbr /a

lancement ! ...

Summit/arsquo;s has an application that allows users to create their own avatars and icons to
communicate in a visual language in IM, SMS, and email. The application is a full SMS
clientmdash;at the moment it requires a download but in the future, it plans to become integrated
in the SMS platform. Zlangorsquo;s business model relies on licensing deals with carriers and
mobile operators, and on partnership with media companies, merchandising and branding, and ad
revenue. Zlengo is also considering a flat monthly fee for the use of its
applicationmdash;similarly to a flat caller ID or other features landline phone carriers have been
offering. The company has deals with carriers in Israel and Europe and has been in advanced
discussion with additional players in the mobile manufacturer and carrier industry./p pA natural
audience for Zlango is the tween and teen market who, for about $1 price point would find this a
highly compelling way to communicate with their friends. Asia is a great fit for that. In addition
to its existing icon-based language (I have in my hands the 10 commandments in Zlangauge), Zlango
is also built for user-generated content: users can create their own icons and avatars or even
their own secret community language. /p pThe greatest challenge Zlango is facing is choosing a
starting point from the many opportunities it has. A solid market entry strategy while maintaining
its long term vision, is going to be key. Zlango is just entering the US marketmdash;itrsquo;ll be
a very interesting company to watch./p pPermalink: a

not enough to matter, anyway. We also don't know if Apple actually built the app or if it

gorgeous graphics and attention to detail, and are willing to pay for it. It also suggests that
Apple should consider making more iPhone games -- and more iPhone apps in general./p pIt's probably
not a good idea for Apple to try to emdominate/em its apps platform -- no need to tick off partners
like Sega or Electronic Arts (ERTS). But in-house game publishing emhas/em strengthened other game

Equities Research analyst Trip Chowdhry says Google (GOOG) will post revenue declines for the next
three years -- $15.71 billion in 2008, $15.23 billion in 2009 and $14.57 billion in 2010./p pThe
2008 number is consistent with the rest of Wall Street, but Chowdhry's 2009 and 2010 projections
are far lower./p p'Our research indicates that the challenging macro-economic conditions continue
to worsen Google's advertising driven consumer Internet business,' he writes, a
href="http://blogs.barrons.com/techtraderdaily/2008/12/01/google-could-they-have-two-down-rev-years-ahead/"according
to Barron's/a./p pChowdhry says contacts tell him Google's number of keywords sold is down 2% to
5%. He claims bids on keywords are down by as much as 20%./p pSources from search marketing firms
SearchIgnite and iCrossing tell us they haven't seen the same kind of declines./p pChowdhry points
out that Google canceled plans to builds a data center Oregon and that's not the company's only
cost cut. It's also cut food, travel, contractors and Friday afternoon parties -- all while
throwing new types of ads against Google News, Google Maps, Google Image Search and YouTube./p pOur
theory has been that Google is either scrambling to boost its Q4 revenues in order to just barely
make them or in order to shock and awe a street full of doubters like Chowdhry./p pstrongSee

Apple (AAPL) a href="http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2550"quietly published to its support site/a
last month encouraging its customers to use "multiple antivirus utilities" to keep their Macs
secure./p pemBut... aren't Macs supposed to be virus-free? Don't they a
href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3Z386vXrt4"make fun of Microsoft/a (MSFT) for all the viruses
that affect Windows?/em/p pSure. Apple's been fortunate to avoid the virus, worm, spyware, and
trojan problems that have plagued Windows over the years./p pPart of that could be that Macs are
inherently more secure than PCs. But the biggest reason has always been that there are far fewer
Macs out there to infect than Windows PCs./p pAs Macs take more of the PC market, that balance
shifts. Likewise, malicious virus writers have more incentive to target Macs than they did before.
And as we increasingly use the Internet, there's more opportunities for people to poke at your
system./p pSo it's in Apple's best interest to advise its customers about antivirus tools -- just
as even Volvo would advise you to buckle your seat belt while driving./p pstrongSee Also:/strongbr

girlfriend, J.P. Weichel of Loveland, Colorado thought he could blow off some steam by writing
nasty things about his ex on in the "Rants Raves" section of Craigslist. Maybe that makes him a
jerk, but under a Colorado criminal libel law, Weichel faces up to 18 months in prison./p p

The case began when a woman told Loveland police in December 2007 about postings made about her
between November and December 2007. Court records show posts that suggested she traded sexual acts
for legal services from her attorney and mentioned a visit from child services because of an injury
to her child./p p style="padding-left: 30px;"Police obtained search warrants for records from Web
sites including Craigslist before identifying Weichel as the suspect. Weichel shares a child with
the woman./p p style="padding-left: 30px;"Weichel, confronted by detectives at his workplace in
August, said he was "just venting," according to court records./p pThe Colorado law bans statements
"tending to blacken the memory of one who is dead" or that "impeach the honesty, integrity, virtue,
or reputation or expose the natural defects of one who is alive."/p pWe're not lawyers, but we're
going to assume if you can be prosecuted for badmouthing someone on Craigslist, you're just as
liable for behavior on MySpace, Facebook, a Wordpress blog, or anywhere else online. Libel is
usually a civil matter, unless you live in one of the handful of states (like Colorado) with a
criminal libel statute on the books./p pstrongSee Also:/strongbr /a

is the iGoogle/netvibets/friendfeed of anything that has an account login. Guy Goldstein, pageonce
Founder and CEO, has a bold vision: he wants to help people manage their plethora of online
services no matter where they are and on the go. Itrsquo;s the real ldquo;your internet your

manage in one place no matter where they are. In the near future, pageonce will introduce value-add
functionality to each of its primary services: users will be able to see weather updates before
heading on a trip, or manage a financial budget on their investment accounts as examples. I predict
the emerging real-time geo-based capabilities will play an important role and give pageonce lots of
opportunities for growing their offerings and customer base./p pPermalink: a
