DoNE releases another teen flick today called ‘Angus Thongs and Perfect Snogging’. The story centers on a 14-year-old girl who keeps a diary about the ups and downs of being a teenager, including the things she learns about kissing. The movie is inspired by the John Hughes movies of the 80’s, most notably Sixteen Candles, as well as the personal experience of both Rennison and Chadha. Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging was primarily filmed in Brighton and Eastbourne, UK, with interior work filmed at Ealing Studios, London due to the studio’s rich heritage of British comedy.

Georgia Nicolson is fourteen, lives with nosey parents who don’t understand her, an annoying three year old sister and has to wear a beret to school. She would, however, rather be blonde, have a smaller nose and a boyfriend. Revolving around her hilarious journal entries, prepare to be engulfed in the world of the soaring joys and bottomless angst of being a teenager.

Since slowly getting back into the record game a couple years ago, Slumberland seems to have been loading up for a huge display of fireworks in 2008. The years spent in inactivity haven’t dulled their knack for finding great pop bands and putting out great records, one after another.

The Lodger - Life is Sweet
The Lodger’s debut album, Grown-Ups, was a fine slice of indie pop that called to mind stellar groups like Orange Juice, the Wedding Present, and Heavenly, while making a case that they might someday be mentioned in that same class. Crystal Stilts - Alight of Night
……a perfect blend of psychedelic gloom and garage rock punch, of indie pop hooks and girl group drama, of noise and candy. It’s obvious from the first few seconds of Alight of Night that Crystal Stilts aren’t doing anything shockingly new or innovative, and that’s alright. Cause Co-Motion! - It’s Time! Singles & EPs 2005-08
The tinny, live-wire sound the quartet sends shooting through the wires is reminiscent of the clatter and hiss of Henry’s Dress, the strutting songcraft calls to mind Jane Pow, and the reverb-soaked recording style is a hallmark of the label’s approach from Black Tambourine to Aislers Set to now. Along with these albums, Slumberland’s been crazy busy releasing singles all year. Starting with their excellent Searching for the Now 7″ series (which features songs from top poppers like Summer Cats, A Sunny Day in Glasgow and Bye!, Archie from Velocity Girl’s new project), continuing with the return of the June Brides‘ Phil Wilson with an EP of interesting covers called Industrial Strength, and finishing with a one-two knockout punch from Scotland by a couple bands formed out of the wreckage of the Royal We. Bricolage’s orange-y, juice-y single “Turn You Over” is all elbows and knees up, Sexy Kids‘ “Sisters Are Forever” is a brilliant indie rock anthem with a huge, heartwarming hook. Both leave the listener desperate for more!

All this and The Pains of Being Pure At Heart full-length coming in early 2009 too. Check the video for the first single “Everything For You” now and check back often to see what other magic tricks Mike Slumberland has up his sleeve.

Is it possible to hook my MBA to my TV and watch movies on it given that the TV is 32". It has HDMI hook ups and I know that they make DVI to HDMI cables. I was wondering if the MBA would be able to play the movie on the full 32" screen or would it adjust the picture to the MBA's best resolution? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Some time ago Google introduced voice search for the iPhone; now, Vlingo ups the ante with an application that allows you to search the web, use Google Maps, dial phone numbers as well as update your Twitter and Facebook account, all by speaking into the phone.

Once again, I’m not bullish on voice controls as far as computers go - be it desktop, portable or handheld computers. In many situations (office, noisy environments) voice controls simply don’t work well. And even when they do, typing is almost always more precise, and - if you type reasonably fast - sometimes even faster. I don’t think that voice control applications are useless: there are many situations in which they work well. I’m just not bullish on the majority of users ever adopting the features that Vlingo offers.

Vlingo has already introduced a similar voice recognition software for the BlackBerry; our own Adam Ostrow was impressed with the service, so I guess it all boils down to what type of user you are. In any case, Vlingo’s iPhone application is free, so it costs you nothing to try it out. Check out a demo video of the application below.
