La partition propose deux leçons différentes
simultanément : l’orgue ou le piano. Il existe également une
version ultérieure pour piano solo (qui a été gravée par Leslie
Howard dans son intégrale paisible), mais nous l’écartons
délibérément, car elle met nécessairement de côté toute
la dramaturgie qui nous paraît faire le prix de l’Å“uvre.
L’alternative est intégrée à la partition définitive, si bien
qu’on pourrait jouer selon les stations, si l’envie en prenait, à
l’orgue ou au piano au cours du même concert.

D’emblée, CSS annonce sa prise de position, on pourra donc affûter tout
à loisir des arguments contraire au cours de son parcours en notre compagnie : les
lutins ont de sérieuses réserves sur l’usage de l’orgue pour cette
Å“uvre.
La première raison, et peut-être la raison principale (rendant par là
même la suite de notre entreprise caduque), est que nous disposons au disque d’une
version absolument magnétique, d’une profondeur à la fois mystique et
dramaturgique sans égale, celle accompagnée et dirigée du piano par Reinbert
de Leeuw. Celle que nous vous recommanderons en toute priorité à l’issue du
parcours discographique.
Mais ce n’est pas la seule raison, car il existe des versions intéressantes à
l’orgue ; nous pouvons argumenter un peu, partition (et extraits sonores) en main.
1. Première raison : l’orgue, et c’est même la
principale faiblesse de l’instrument (avec son encombrement), ne connaît pas
les nuances dynamiques, à l’exception des changements de registration,
qu’on ne peut évidemment pas utiliser à tout moment dans le morceau,
d’autant que l’opération demande une main libre (ou un assistant) et change
également le timbre de l’instrument. Les nuances et, peut-être pis, les accents notés sur la
partition de piano ne peuvent donc pas être exécutés. Les bons
organistes y suppléent par des détachés adroits, mais il n’en demeure
pas moins une certaine homogénéité de ce côté, qui nuit
à l’aspect direct de l’expression et aux à-coups émotionnels du
drame.
2. L’orgue ne dispose pas de pédale forte. Ici aussi, les bons
organistes (et même les bons pianistes...) savent s’en passer, c’est même
tout le sens de leur formation technique spécifique. Néanmoins, certains
effets de fondu, comme sur les moitiés de mesure de la marche claudicante du
Christ chargé de la croix – pour la rendre moins
régulière –, certaines variations de texture sont
impossibles. Le rubato (écart de tempo) les pallie, et se montre
déjà nécessaire au piano, mais c’est encore une possibilité
expressive de moins.
3. L’orgue a un ambitus plus réduit que le piano. Ici, impossible
de creuser les basses dans les moments recueillis ou révoltés –
ce que Liszt trouve en revanche nécessaire dans sa version pour piano. Il est vrai
qu’ici, le son majestueux et imposant de l’orgue tient tout à fait la
comparaison côté basses impressionnantes, fût-ce à l’octave
supérieure.
4. Liszt ne sollicite pas le pédalier, peu nécessaire dans cette
Å“uvre assez peu polyphonique. Ce qui fait perdre, du coup, l’un des moyens
supplémentaires de l’orgue par rapport au piano (bien qu’il soit possible
d’en équiper les pianos, on n’en dispose que pour les Å“uvres
déjà rares de Schumann qui le requièrent explicitement, et qui sont de plus
très souvent jouées au piano standard sans ajout de pédalier).
5. L’orgue n’a pas la capacité de percussion du piano. Pour
les moments de forte intensité tragique, comme les cris de la foule (Crucifige
!), on perd nettement en tranchant et en violence.
6. L’orgue n’a pas la virtuosité du piano. Liszt supprime certains
traits, assez originaux, de sa version pour orgue (qui est en réalité une version
réduite, où manquent des notes et des nuances...), comme le tremblement du
port de la croix à la Deuxième Station, qui est simplifié en une
préfiguration de la marche de la seconde partie de la station. Les valeurs rapides
étant peu audibles à l’orgue (qui dispose d’une certaine inertie),
le remarquable tremolo [1] crescendo-decrescendo sur l’accord à quinte
augmentée qui précède l’hommage à la croix
disparaît purement et simplement, changé en un bête accord.

Il existe néanmoins quelques avantages à l’orgue.
1. Pour les interprètes, il est sans doute plus facile d’intégrer ce
programme austère à une cérémonie, ou de le proposer à une
paroisse en concert profane que de trouver une salle de concert pour une Å“uvre aussi
dépouillée, dont l’atmosphère se prêterait de plus assez mal aux
ors d’un théâtre ou au prosaïsme d’une salle des fêtes.
2. Les orgues sont généralement placés dans des églises, et les
lignes vocales simples se trouvent assez magnifiées par cette résonance qui semble
avoir été étudiée par Liszt. En tout cas, moins de froideur que dans
un studio ou dans une salle à l’acoustique saine et sèche.
3. Les changements de jeux permettent de donner à chaque section une couleur
particulière, de renouveler l’attention – ou en tout cas de
pallier la faiblesse dramatique que produit la monotonie d’une dynamique toujours
égale.

Vous entendez ces possibilités de variation d’intensité, cette attaque des
derniers accords, ce tremolo final et irrégulier dont la texture se délite petit
à petit. (Reinbert de Leeuw au piano.)
Ici, malgré une très belle lecture de l’organiste, on entend une marche
régulière au demi-ton, pas très originale (et surtout dévoilant le
procédé de la superbe fin de cette même station, après
l’intervention de plain-chant, et donc redondant musicalement). Evidemment, pas de variations
d’intensité, pas d’incisivité dans les attaques du chant (qui ressort
beaucoup du fait de la différence de puissance entre les jeux).
On perd aussi les accords menaçants à la fin de l’extrait, et bien sûr le
superbe tremolo, qui devient un (certes très bel) accord.
Moment très beau tout de même, mais combien moins fort !

C’est pourquoi CSS recommande le piano... Mais il existe quelques excellentes versions
à l’orgue, même si l’Å“uvre y perd à notre avis, on
l’a vu, de son originalité et, partant, de sa force.
(Par exemple, pour les plus pressés de découvrir une lecture de valeur avec orgue,
la version Veismanis / Genvrin citée ci-dessus.)

Motivation:Cis-acting regulatory elements are frequently constrained
by both sequence content and positioning relative to a functional site, such as a splice or
polyadenylation site. We describe an approach to regulatory motif analysis based on non-negative
matrix factorization (NMF). Whereas existing pattern recognition algorithms commonly focus
primarily on sequence content, our method simultaneously characterizes both positioning and
sequence content of putative motifs.
Results: Tests on artificially generated sequences show that NMF can faithfully
reproduce both positioning and content of test motifs. We show how the variation of the residual
sum of squares can be used to give a robust estimate of the number of motifs or patterns in a
sequence set. Our analysis distinguishes multiple motifs with significant overlap in sequence
content and/or positioning. Finally, we demonstrate the use of the NMF approach through
characterization of biologically interesting datasets. Specifically, an analysis of mRNA
3'-processing (cleavage and polyadenylation) sites from a broad range of higher eukaryotes
reveals a conserved core pattern of three elements.

Summary: CNVDetector is a program for locating copy number variations (CNVs) in
a single genome. CNVDetector has several merits: (i) it can deal with the array comparative
genomic hybridization data even if the noise is not normally distributed; (ii) it has a linear
time kernel; (iii) its parameters can be easily selected; (iv) it evaluates the statistical
significance for each CNV calling.

Summary: This article introduces a new forward population genetic simulation
program that can efficiently generate samples from populations with complex demographic histories
under various models of natural selection. The program (SFS_CODE) is highly flexible, allowing
the user to simulate realistic genomic regions with several loci evolving according to a variety
of mutation models (from simple to context-dependent), and allows for insertions and deletions.
Each locus can be annotated as either coding or non-coding, sex-linked or autosomal, selected or
neutral, and have an arbitrary linkage structure (from completely linked to independent).

DC may help prevent the publisher from hearing an ominous voice-over: "Finish him!"

I've recently bought a PSP 2000 which on battery, lasts around 4h more or less. I've spent quite
some time looking to buy an extra battery as I have some upcoming trips which are going to be quite
long (20h+ travel time) however, I couldn't find anything reliable and that's why I'm hoping to get
some advices from this forum.
The PSP Extended Battery Pack looks promising but I couldn't find it online or in any shops
(probably because it was put off the market). One can buy the 1200mAh battery but at 40$ that's ...
well, way too expensive for what you get (imo).
I've looked at 3rd party batteries, read the forums and reviews and it doesn't look good. I found
items like this one (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.16689) which promise a lot of power but end
up delivering 10x less, in many cases even less then a standard PSP battery.
I own plenty of AA/AAA rechargeable but I haven't seen many solutions around them plus I read on
the forums that the voltage/current variations might hurt the PSP.
Anyway long story short, I'd really appreciate any advices in getting some extra juice for my PSP.
I'm realistic so having 2200mAh for 30-40$ would be swell.
