br /In their own wordsbr /br /“We're always building web applications, and sometimes we want
those apps to be able to interact with phone callers. Maybe we want a customer to be able to call
in and get information, or maybe we need to coordinate our employees more efficiently. Before
Twilio, you would have had to learn some foreign telecom programming languages, or set up an entire
stack of PBX software to do this. At which point, you'd say 'aw, forget it!' Twilio lets you use
your existing web development skills, existing code, existing servers, existing databases and
existing karma to solve these problems quickly and reliably. We provide the infrastructure, you
provide the business logic via HTTP, and together we rule the world. Or something.”br /br
/Why it might be a killerbr /br /It enables anybody with a basic HTTP knowledge to come up with
fully-realized voice applications in a smooth fashion.br /br /Some questionsbr /br /How much does
the company charge? Are there different plans available? br /br /What it doesbr /br /Twilio is a
company that intends making the creation of inbound and outbound phone applications an effortless
task. In essence, what the company does is to let you provide your reasoning via HTTP while they
take care of the infrastructure – IE, web development, servers and databases. br
brThe one requisite for using Twilio is being a web developer, as HTTP knowledge is required for
getting the ideas across. No other software or special knowledge is actually required. br brThe
site includes examples of the voice applications which can be created using this approach, and you
can peruse them at will by visiting the corresponding section. br brOn the other hand, pricing is
dealt with using a “pay-as-you-go” philosophy. The company charges a per minute rate
for calls, and a monthly amount for each phone number that is assigned to you. br brIn finishing,
Twilio offers an interesting service that can arouse quite a bit of online interest. Direct your
browser to www.twilio.com to find out more. br /br /Link: a

Author : Glenn Blakeslee
At four in the morning the alarms went off. Lois hardly stirred, but I went downstairs to the
kitchen, started a pot of coffee, and then slogged my sorry ass to the control console, next to
the laundry room.
Red lights glared from the temperature control panel. The needles showed an overtemp in the
secondary thermocouple but normal temperatures in the primary, so I couldn’t tell if the
relay was actually over-heating or if the secondary had failed again. I dialed down the master
motor-control rheostat a couple of notches —losing precious
speed— but the warning light didn’t go out, so instead of doing
anything more I went to the kitchen, poured a cup of coffee, and waited until dawn.
I spent most of the day under the home. Replacing the thermocouple dimmed the warning light but I
could feel, just by a touch on its titanium casing, that the number three stepper motor was
running much too hot. I took the motor offline and spent a few hours tightening and replacing
coolant lines. I inspected the narrow yard-tall wheels on the rear outboard truck assembly and
ended up replacing the bearings on two of the twelve wheels.
Around noon Lois came down the stairs, shook her head and grinned at me. “Come on up for
lunch, Herb,” she said. It was a nice day, cool for summer, so we ate sandwiches and
watermelon on the veranda.
After lunch I climbed to the roof, and in the strong midday sun I dusted off the solar panels and
checked the alignment on the control linkage. I stood for a while admiring our new cupola, built
a few weeks ago toward the front of the house. It was expensive, but Lois and I both believed the
cupola completed our home.
Lois invited the Smiths from next-door over for supper. I grilled steaks on the patio while Bill
Smith drank my beer and Lois and Dorothy Smith sat gossiping. “Nice cupola, Herb,”
Bill said, gloating.
“Yeah?” I said.
“Sure,” Bill said. “That thing must weigh a couple tons.” Bill’s
home had been inching past mine for the last year. He’d gained nearly half a house on me.
“Lois and I love the cupola,” I said.
“You should have gotten the high-performance relays instead. Like I did,” Bill said.
“I think the cupola is beautiful!” Dorothy said with a smile.
After the Smiths left we cleaned up, and I went to the control console and moved the master
rheostat up a notch. No warning lights came on. The indicators showed that we’d moved a
little less than thirty-three inches that day.
At dusk Lois and I climbed the stairs to the cupola. We opened the windows, let the breeze in.
“Bill isn’t racing you, you know,” Lois said.
I put my arm around her shoulders. “The hell he isn’t,” I replied, and I kissed
her.
From the cupola we could see the neighborhood as it stretched toward the horizon, each home
moving at its own good speed. We were heading toward the sunset, the sky before us streaked with
red and gold and salmon. I was happy.
From the cupola I could see that, from here, it was all down hill.

width="1" height="1" //divpThe British National party has made advances because mainstream
political parties, including Labour, have abandoned sections of the white working class, ignoring
people's needs while taking their votes for granted, a government minister admits today./ppWriting
in the Guardian, the communities and local government secretary, Hazel Blears, warns that
politicians must work hard at grassroots level to win back the trust and confidence of people
alienated from mainstream political life./ppWith the BNP's areas of strongest support revealed this
week by the posting of the party's secret membership list on the internet, Blears also calls upon
her Labour colleagues to take their opposition to the far right to the streets in those places. "We
must continue to campaign vigorously against the BNP: demonstrate, picket, leaflet and argue," she
says./ppIn a strongly worded piece, Blears argues that demonstrating against the BNP is not enough,
however. "Shouting 'Nazi' is not the answer," she writes. /ppThe government, Blears insists, must
devise a long-term strategy to bring different communities together, working with councils and
different community groups; some Labour backbenchers have blamed the party's drive to capture
middle class votes for the rise of the BNP in some areas that were previously Labour
strongholds./ppBlears writes: "We must recognise that where the BNP wins votes, it is often a
result of local political failure." She adds: "Estates that have been ignored for decades; voters
taken for granted; local services that have failed; white working-class voters who feel politicians
live on a different planet. In such a political vacuum, the BNP steps in with offers of
grass-cutting, a listening ear and easy answers to complex problems."/ppBlears acknowledges that
the BNP, under Nick Griffin, has a "cunning strategy", and that it has "started a process of
detoxification". Using websites, blogs, newsletters and petitions, it has reached thousands and
"played on people's apprehensions". It has peddled, she says, "pernicious but plausible
lies"./ppShe points out that support for the far right remains small, but says a revival of
mainstream politics is paramount in those areas where the BNP is now known to be at its strongest.
Her comments echo what some Labour backbenchers and rank-and-file party members have been saying
about the BNP's strategy for several years./ppThere have been warnings that BNP activists have
targeted neighbourhoods where few people vote in local or general elections, and introduced
themselves on doorsteps as representatives of "a party that's like Labour in your parents' days".
/ppBlears is one of the most senior Labour figures to voice such concerns, and in such forthright
terms. Her wake-up call came as the fallout from the posting of the membership list continued to be
felt by the BNP. Police forces across the country were continuing to scour the lists for the names
of serving officers - who are banned from joining the party. But the General Medical Council said
it would not be taking action against any medical practitioners found to be members of the
party./ppIn West Yorkshire, police investigating the petrol bombing of a car outside the home of a
man whose name appears on the list were trying to establish whether it was the result of a
vigilante attack. The petrol bomb exploded on Thursday night in Liversedge. The Peugeot 206, which
belonged to a neighbour of the man named on the BNP list, was destroyed./pdiv style="float: left;

Now that you've had well over a month to toy with Apple's latest MacBook and MacBook Pro,
we're just dying to know what your impressions are. Has the glass trackpad turned you off (or just
turned you off to every other trackpad on the planet)? Is the inability to order the MBP with a
matte display still grating your nerves? Are you happy with the performance? Is your "S" key
randomly popping off at the most inopportune times? You just spent a load of cash on what
essentially amounts to a first-generation product -- you've every right to make your voice heard.
Do just that in comments below.

Live 7.0.12
Live is the audio sequencer you can play like an instrument. It integrates
complete multitrack recording and editing functionality - play your studio arrangements on stage,
or record live improvisations and edit them in the studio. Even better, manipulate the speed and
pitch of any audio while it is streamed from disk - with exceptional flexibility and fidelity.
Live lets you use audio any way you want: looping, synchronizing, improvising, and recording have
never been faster, easier and more fun.
WHAT'S NEWVersion 7.0.12:
Improvements:
- MIDI surface controller support for the Alesis Master Control
- MIDI controller support for Vestax VCM 600
Bug fixes:
- Operator's voice stealing would not work properly.
- Under certain conditions an empty MIDI effect Rack could lead to audio drop-outs.
- The 'Rename' command for an Impulse slot would not be available via the context menu.
- A copied or moved Reverb would not properly show the correct curve with Diffusion Network
enabled.
- After installing content packages, a dialog could show a message about a failed installation
although the installation was successful.
- A copied or moved Tension instrument would not show the correct filter curve.
- Dragging a particular chain from a Drum Rack into 'empty' Arranger space could crash Live.
- Moving a clip in a track with an External Instrument and routed to a multitimbral plug-in
could crash Live.
- Moving zones in the the Sampler could lead to hard disk dropouts.
- Live's search index would not properly handle version 2.3 ID3 tags.
- Dragging in a clip containing an Audio Unit plug-in could cause a message box to appear,
canceling the drag.
- Tighter MIDI timing when looping in the Arranger.
- Files would incorrectly be dated as “Yesterday” during a few hours
around midnight.
- The macro settings of a rack containing certain third party plug-ins would not properly
restored when loading the rack.
- Having multiple automation lanes on an audio track and removing one lane would not properly
display the audio waveform on the remaining lanes.
- Doing the the Capture and Insert Scene command could create a memory leak.
- When running as MIDI clock slave, Live would only display a rounded to the nearest integer
tempo.
- The functionality to ask the AU plug-in for its supported formats would not work properly.
- If Live would run as ReWire slave but would not get called from the ReWire master for some
time, a message box would appear to inform about that problem. This message box again could lead
to a crash of Live and the ReWire master. Now, the the message about the inactive ReWire master
is displayed on the status bar.
- Sending a MIDI program change message from an external MIDI source into Live would lead to a
crash.
- Depending on the structure of the current Live set, arming a track could be extremely slow.
- Unlock offline would not work properly.
